grown with organic methods* to the Bowling Green Area. Produce is delivered to two convenient Bowling Green locations to save you time. Locally grown organic produce is a cheaper and fresher option than produce available in stores. Early Bird discounts are available!

What is CSA?
Community Shared Agriculture puts the community back in farming in a fresh new way. Through this arrangement you can join with farmers to create a local food economy by purchasing annual shares in their crops, doing away with middlemen, bureaucracy, and waste. CSA brings the freshest possible food to city folks while sharing with them a rural way of life. This support of community allows small independent farmers to not only stay in farming but find a better way to farm. A share will equal 1⁄4 bushel or more delivered weekly for 28 weeks. For those large families who need more, a second share will be available at a discounted rate.
Pricing Options:
For those who are able, a one-time lump sum payment in full is always appreciated. It sure simplifies matters. For this reason we are offering a discount to those who pay up front as opposed to a payment plan. Also, it is truly, truly helpful if you sign up early. As an incentive to encourage folks to please sign up early, we are offering a discount to all who pay in full or submit their deposit now.
Total cost if Paying in Full in one Lump Sum: Discounted Lump Sum Paid-in-Full price = $400
Payment Plan:
Discounted Plan: $25 deposit , 4 payments of $100 due April 1, May 1, June 1, July 1 = $425
Discounted 2nd share for large families with many mouths to feed = additional $280 if Paying in Full in one Lump Sum. Add to the Lump Sum Paid-in-Full cost of your 1st share (above) which is determined by when you pay.
Discounted 2nd share Payment Plan: three additional payments of $100 due August 1, Sept. 1, Oct. 1. Tack on to appropriate payment plan (above). The amount of your deposit is determined by when you submit your deposit.
*The famer has decided not to continue the USDA Organic Certification because of the amount of paperwork involved, though he still uses completely organic growing practices and would be considered “beyond organic”

CSA (Community Supported Agricultur
e) gives city dwellers the opportunity to form a direct personal relationship with a local farmer. The farmers of Golden Rule Gardens CSA are committed to providing produce grown free of synthetic chemicals at a more affordable price. Members sign up during the winter, making a commitment to support the farmers and helping to cover the costs of operating the farms. In return, members receive weekly deliveries spring through fall containing a variety of seasonal vegetables, berries, and melons, depending upon the day’s harvest. There is a weekly newsletter updating members on farm happenings and an opportunity to visit the farms to meet the farmers and see where your food is grown.Discount for those who sign up now!

Anticipated Harvest
In the spring we can expect cool weather crops like lettuce, mesclun mix, arugula, the dark leafy greens, and more, followed closely with strawberries, hothouse tomatoes, spring onions, squash, broccoli, and new potatoes. As the season becomes warmer, we will see blueberries, peppers, heirloom tomatoes, melons, beans, zucchini, eggplant, sweet corn, and sweet onions. As cooler weather approaches, sweet potatoes and winter squash make their appearance, with melons, tomatoes, and peppers continuing. The season will come to a close with cool weather crops once again like lettuce, greens, arugula, broccoli, cauliflower, sweet carrots, cabbage, Chinese cabbage, and more.

Letter from the Brubaker Family to the Bowling Green group:
Greetings in the Name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!
I’d like to share a little bit about CSA history so you all can have a better idea about what’s going on on Jeannie’s porch this spring through fall. The first CSA that we know of was in Japan. A group of women contracted with a local farmer to grow pesticide-free food for their group. They were concerned about the increasing percentage of food that was imported, processed and grown with chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The first CSA in the United States was organized in 1986. Historically, members paid in advance to fund the farm’s necessary expenses. This is a better arrangement for the farmer than to borrow all this money and pay interest on it then be reimbursed (or not) later.
Golden Rule Gardens is run by the Thomas Brubaker family. With so many concerns in our time about food sources we feel moved to make an effort to grow food organically. Our goal is to grow food that we can all feel good about. There are experiences that we know about where children in school could study and behave better - and adults felt better when their diet was changed from a conventional American diet to foods that were grown and prepared in the ways that were more common 200 years ago…
In light of the economical changes we are facing we feel it could be beneficial to many of us if we could support each other more locally.
We believe it is our responsibility to care for God’s creation and have come to believe we can best serve our Lord as farmers by growing organically. I found a quote I really like by Pope John Paul II that I’d like to share, “It is the duty of all Christians and all who look to God as the Creator to protect the environment by restoring a sense of reverence for the whole of God’s creation…All have a moral duty to care for the environment not only for their own good but also the good of future generations.”
We are very grateful to Jeannie Spears for so graciously hosting Golden Rule Gardens CSA. This arrangement has potential to be very helpful to our farm and family, and we hope is beneficial to you as well. – So let’s remember the Golden Rule and: Do unto others as we would have them do unto us!
